Most Influential Leaders of The 20th Century
When you think of an influential leader, it tends to be someone who has changed the course of history forever. The ideas, visions, and strategies they shared with the world are recognized by millions if not billions of people. Their influence has spread across other individuals in their fields to increase their skills and work ethic. The ideology and principles they’ve shared are recognized and acted upon. These are the qualities of the most influential people of the 20th century.
I’ve decided to highlight four of the most influential leaders to pick out and discuss.
Winston Churchill – Leader of Great Britain during the second World War.
Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of Great Britain when they won World War Two. He is looked upon as one of the most influential leaders of our time due to his victories during the war. He is also a major part responsible for saving Europe’s liberal democracy and steering it away from fascism. He was also an accomplished award winning writer with an accolade such as the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Nelson Mandela – South African Former President & Political Activist
Nelson Mandela goes down in history as one of the 20th Century’s Greatest and Most Influential Leaders. As a child, Nelson grew up as the son of a local South African tribe leader. He went on to pursue a full education and graduated in 1942 with a law degree from the University of Witwatersrand. During his time in school he saw large troubles with the racial inequality faced by non-white people.
Nelson Mandela spent several years fighting the ANC before he was arrested and charged with treason in 1956. The lengthy trial took over 5 years till he was acquitted. With the ANC being banned, Nelson Mandela suggested the idea of an active armed group, but was arrested and charged again. This time they were successful in charging Mandela with planning to overthrow the government. He spent 20 years in prison, and when he was released it was a symbol of racial equality in Africa. He was elected the first official leader of the Democracy of South Africa.
Neil Armstrong – First Person to Walk on the Moon
Getting to space is an unfathomable accomplish, but actually walking on the moon takes it to a new level. Neil Armstrong is ranked one of the most influential leaders due to his courage and passion for pushing mankind forward. The innovation and technological advancements that followed the moon landing proved it’s inspiration and impact it had on the people of the world. The event was broadcast live to the world on July 20th, 1969, making it one of the human kinds greatest accomplishments.
Marilyn Monroe – Actress and Sex Symbol
Marilyn Monroe perfected her image on and off the camera. She was a leading role model for women and men. She wasn’t scared to express herself and challenge the idea of the status quo, one of the many reasons why Michael H Scott admired her. Her face is recognized across the world still to this day. By the time of her death, her movies had grossed over $200 million dollars (around $2 billion now).
Marilyn Monroe didn’t always have it easy. She grew up in various foster homes and abusive living situations. These situations helped shape her future and success as a woman in the industry. This paved the way from several actresses and women in the workplace to have a proper and equal opportunity. Marilyn Monroe’s influence still stands as one of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars and performers.
Martin Luther King Jr. – Civil Rights Leader
Martin Luther King Jr. stands as one of the world’s most influential people. He was the leader of the American Civil Rights Movement which landed him the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. At the time he was the youngest to achieve the award. Martin Luther King Jr. hosted numerous peaceful protests including the March on Washington. He is most famous for his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963. He challenged the world in respect to destroying the idea of racial segregation and inequality.
Martin Luther King Jr showed wildly important qualities of a leader which is why his name and work will live on forever. He created a foundation and movement that will stand the test of time and will forever be remembered.
Being a leader takes an extremely intense passion for their objective. Every leader needs a mission and a reason why. These leaders had visions of their accomplishments and did everything it would take to get there. Michael H Scott hopes he can do the same as he pushes to achieve his own mission. Being one of the most influential people in history is an incredible feat of accomplish. This comes with extreme stress that is managed and dealt with on a day to day basis.
